Fat Bottom Betty Cigar Review In Short
Fat Bottom Betty is right on the nose because this big robusta cigar feels nice and full in your hand. She may have some imperfections but that just makes her more of a memorable experience.
The first moment on your lips is a surprise. The sweetened cap, characteristic of the Deadwood Tobacco Company, is not what you would expect. Don’t let that turn you off.
She slowly brings in more spicy earthy flavors like white pepper, allspice and wood. The sweet baking spices she starts with are far from her final notes of leather, sugary coffee, maple, and black pepper.
Fat Bottom Betty takes you on a journey and you just have to let her lead you. Smoke this when you are in for some excitement and mystery.
First Look and Feel
These Deadwood Tobacco Company cigars arrive in a slim classy wood box of 10 cigars. As you open the box, Betty stares at you with her faded eyes. Each cigar is individually wrapped in cellophane so you can safely store them outside of the humidor for several weeks.
As soon as you unwrap it however, you notice the slickness of the Connecticut Maduro wrapper. It is on the oilier side but not so bad that it slips from your fingers. This does however foretell a more difficult cigar to light.
Although it might take you a bit longer to get her going, she rewards you with a beautiful light grey burn. She doesn’t get there from the very start but once she goes, she is stable.
Something else that jumps out at from the very beginning is her sweetness. It’s not surprising that many people think she is infused like other Deadwood cigars. Rest assured, she’s a much more rugged cigar than that.

Fat Bottom Betty Cigar Flavors
Fat Bottom Betty starts as a sweet one, mostly because of the sweetened cap. Its sweetness wafts towards you as soon as you open the wood box.
At first lighting, the sweetened cap is still the strongest influence. You start of with traditional baking spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon and the slightly more spicy allspice but through a veil of the sweet tip.
As you get closer to the middle, the sweetness fades and makes room for a more outdoorsy vibe. Maple and leather starts to come through while the nutmeg still lingers. You also get the first hints of white pepper with each inhalation.
Towards the end, Fat Bottom Betty wants to leave you with strong impression. The white pepper is replaced with black pepper and some of the sweeter notes also return. It leaves you with a wonderful taste of cinnamon, the same nutmeg and the aromas of a forest.
How It Smokes
It begins with a slow start because of the somewhat oily maduro wrapper. The sweet tip may be overpowering to those not used to infused cigars while tasting familiar to those that do enjoy them.
After the first couple of minutes, Fat Bottom Betty burns perfectly. It has an even burn that lasts to the very last draw.
Expect to spend about 45 minutes getting to the end of Fat Bottom Betty. Each quarter of an hour feels like meeting someone new but someone you immediately know you can trust.
Great for beginner cigar smokers and a fun surprise for aficionados – Fat Bottom Betty Robusto is an excellent recommendation.
Final Thoughts
- Since Fat Bottom Betty is considered more medium by experienced aficionados, you can bring out its flavors better by aging it in the humidor.
- The sweetened tip gets some getting used to. Not everyone will get used to it.
- Despite her complex flavor profile, she has a wonderfully easy draw. This makes her both relaxing and interesting.

About the Brand: Deadwood Tobacco Company
We have the Deadwood Tobacco Company to thank for Fat Bottom Betty. This small tobacconist in South Dakota oozes with cool and rebel spirit.
Located in an old jail and the infamous Deadwood tunnels, you know that you can expect cigars that don’t stick to the rules. With four bearded friends going by Preacher, Scribe, Wild Bill and Stash at its helm, this is one place to watch.
But the Deadwood Tobacco Company doesn’t do it all on their own. Their cigars are produced by the Drew Estate, a Nicaraguan tobacco factory with a more than unusual backstory.
In 1998, a ‘crazy gringo’ named Jonathan Drew moved to Esteli, Nicaragua with big dreams of a cigar revolution. But revolutions do not happen overnight. It wasn’t until the new century that things really started to look up.
Their Acid cigars and Natural by Drew Estate were the start of something big. Several years later, Deadwood Yummy Bitches found their birth in Esteli, too.
